The ARIZONA DESERET CHOIR is a community service music organization of men and women from the Phoenix Area. The choir has performed with combined vocal and orchestral groups in all sizes of venues throughout the State of Arizona. Performances have included a wide music variety, from challenging masterworks to pieces that are down-right fun. The music we perform is meant to uplift and ennoble all, and echoes the statement:

"... If there is anything virtuous, lovely, or of good report or praiseworthy, we seek after these things."

Joan Rodgers -Interim Director

Mrs. Joan Rodgers has a degree in Instrumental and Vocal Music Education from the
University of Utah.  While at the University, she studied under Richard P. Condie, long-time
director of the Mormon Tabernacle Choir, and Jay Welch, who also served as musical director
of the Mormon Tabernacle Choir.  She also sang with Maurice Abravanel, conductor of the
Utah Symphony and made choral recordings with Eugene Ormandy, then-director of the
Philadelphia Orchestra.
Mrs. Rodgers later joined the Mormon Tabernacle Choir and participated in the Grammy
award-winning recording of the Battle Hymn of the Republic.  She was a member of the Jay
Welch Choral for many years.  Mrs. Rodgers went on to teach vocal and instrumental music
for 20 years in public schools and privately, including piano instruction at BYU Hawaii.  With
her late husband, Ralph G. Rodgers, Jr., she co-founded Pages Lane Theater in Centerville,
Utah, which later became Rodgers Memorial Theatre and is now Centerpoint Theatre, a
non-profit professional theater organization.  She served as musical director and accompanist
for 100+ musical theater productions and concerts at Pages Lane Theater.
Mrs. Rodgers served as Entertainment Co-Chair of the Utah Centennial Statehood Gala,
which included performances by the Osmonds, Utah Symphony, Mormon Tabernacle Choir
and Grant Johannasen, among others.  She also co-founded the Rodgers Performing Arts
School.  Alumni of the School now perform in Broadway National Tours and work as
professional recording artists and theater and musical professionals across the country.
Mrs. Rodgers also has a lifetime of experience serving in various musical capacities in her
local Church congregation.
